Kev's Top Tip for April
It’s Parkinson’s Awareness Month, and with that in mind, this top tip is about target size.
In this context, a target is the object that you need to select with your mouse/finger or stylus to make something happen.
If a target is too small then people with a lack of fine motor control won’t be able to accurately or consistently select the target, or make the thing happen.
And, if there are many small targets close together the risk of selecting the wrong target is higher than if they have space.
There are some specific minimum target size rules which are way too technical for a ‘top tip’ about minimum size.
So - the short version is make sure your targets are reasonably large and well-spaced.
Here’s an example of a well-known site that does target size well, with the approximate targets outlined in red.
Get in touch if you’d like help in assessing or fixing the target size on your website.
